Surgery and Anesthesia

Safe, Compassionate Surgical Care for Your Dog

At Livermore Family Pet Hospital, we know that the thought of your dog undergoing surgery can feel overwhelming. Your pup is a cherished part of your family—and when they need medical care, you deserve peace of mind. That’s why we approach every surgical procedure with deep compassion, attention to detail, and an unwavering commitment to your dog’s comfort, safety, and recovery.

With the help of fear free means, and safety in mind, we offer our canine friends anti-nausea and calming medications. Anti-nausea medications are provided the night before surgery to reduce the risk of pets vomiting, which is a common side effect of many anesthetics, and make the process more comfortable for them. The use of calming medications helps to alleviate anxiety and stress of staying in the hospital for surgery and recovery.

A Surgical Environment Designed with Your Dog’s Safety in Mind

Our state-of-the-art surgical suite allows us to perform a wide range of procedures—from routine spays and neuters to more advanced and emergency surgeries. Every aspect of our surgical environment is designed to reduce stress and prioritize well-being.

For more complex procedures, we collaborate closely with trusted, board-certified veterinary surgeons, ensuring your dog always receives the best care available.

Prioritizing Safety at Every Step

Before surgery, we conduct thorough pre-anesthetic evaluations, including bloodwork and physical exams, to uncover any hidden health concerns that could affect anesthesia or recovery.

During surgery, your dog receives:

  • IV fluids to support blood pressure and hydration
  • Continuous monitoring of heart rate, breathing, oxygen levels, temperature, and blood pressure
  • Anesthetic monitoring with advanced equipment including ECG, pulse oximetry, and oscillometric blood pressure
  • Thermal support with both heated water blankets and warm-air (Bair Hugger) systems to maintain safe body temperature

Your dog is never alone—a trained veterinary technician is present at all times, monitoring their condition before, during, and after surgery with care and compassion.

Anesthesia with Vigilance and Care

Anesthesia always carries risk, and we take that responsibility seriously. At Livermore Family Pet Hospital, we use modern anesthetic medications and equipment tailored to your dog’s individual needs, with constant supervision throughout the process. Our goal is always the same: to keep your dog as safe, stable, and comfortable as possible from start to finish.
