Diagnostics
At Livermore Family Pet Hospital, we understand how difficult it can be when your cat isn’t feeling like themselves. Since our feline companions can’t tell us what’s wrong, we rely on gentle, advanced veterinary diagnostics to uncover what’s going on—safely and accurately.
Cats are experts at hiding signs of illness or discomfort. That’s why early diagnosis is so important. Using diagnostic tools, we can look beneath the surface to identify health concerns before they become serious, giving your cat the best chance at a fast, comfortable recovery.
Our hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic technology, allowing us to perform a wide range of tests in-house and deliver quick, reliable results. From routine lab work to more complex evaluations, we’re able to act swiftly when your cat needs care most. For cases requiring more advanced analysis, we partner closely with trusted veterinary diagnostic laboratories and can also consult with board-certified clinical pathologists to ensure every detail is reviewed by experts.
Your cat’s health, comfort, and safety are our top priorities. If your cat isn’t acting like their usual self, we’re here to help with gentle, thorough diagnostics and a compassionate approach to care.
In-house Laboratory
Getting answers quickly can make all the difference. That’s why we’re proud to offer an in-house laboratory, where we can perform a wide range of diagnostic tests and provide rapid results to help us develop the best treatment plan for your cat.
We offer essential tests like basic blood panels to assess your cat’s overall health and organ function, as well as more specific screenings for conditions such as heartworm disease, feline leukemia, pancreatitis, thyroid function, and even anticoagulant poisoning. These quick, reliable tests allow us to address potential health concerns right away. In addition to blood tests, we use microscopic evaluations to check for skin infections, ear issues, blood-borne parasites, and even signs of cancer. This helps us gain a deeper understanding of your cat’s condition and provide the most effective treatment as soon as possible.
For more specialized tests, we collaborate with trusted outside laboratories that can perform an even broader range of diagnostic evaluations. With multiple daily pickups of samples, we ensure your cat’s results are processed swiftly and accurately, allowing us to make informed recommendations about their care without unnecessary delays.
We’re committed to providing quick, compassionate care with advanced diagnostic tools. If you notice any signs of illness or simply want to check on your cat’s overall well-being, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re here to help your cat feel better, faster.
Radiology
It’s important to get a clear picture of what’s going on inside their body. That’s why we offer radiographic imaging, or x-rays, to help us see deeper into your cat’s health with precision and care.
If your cat is experiencing issues in areas like the chest, abdomen, or musculoskeletal system, your veterinarian may recommend radiographs to provide a detailed image. X-rays use a very brief, safe burst of radiation to capture a clear image of your cat’s internal structures. This allows us to diagnose a variety of conditions such as pneumonia, heart disease, cancer, and more serious health issues.
For dental health, we also use dental x-rays to look beneath the gums and examine the roots of each tooth—something that’s not visible during a typical exam. This is crucial for identifying issues like tooth infections, abscesses, or root problems that can affect your cat’s overall health. Because we use digital x-rays, we’re able to send images to our expert radiologists for review within 24 hours, allowing us to provide a quick and accurate diagnosis. With their help, we can discuss the next steps in your cat’s care, whether that means further testing or starting a treatment plan
While x-rays are the most widely used and trusted method for internal imaging, we also offer advanced services such as ultrasound imaging to check your cat’s internal organs, including the liver, kidneys, and stomach. We’re fortunate to work with board-certified veterinary radiologists who are available for specialized ultrasound services here at our hospital. Additionally, we offer video scope services for detailed examinations of your cat’s ears and nasal passages, which helps us visualize the problem area in real-time, guiding us toward the right treatment approach.
Through these advanced diagnostic tools, we can find answers and create a tailored treatment plan that supports your cat’s long-term well-being. If you’re concerned about your cat’s health or need further clarification on any diagnostic procedures, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
Electrocardiography (ECG)
An ECG helps us detect cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats) and other heart abnormalities that might not be immediately obvious during a routine exam. By closely monitoring your cat’s heart, we can detect early signs of concern and intervene promptly, improving their overall health and well-being.
Additionally, the ECG is a critical tool when your cat requires anesthesia or surgery, ensuring that their heart is stable and well-supported throughout the procedure. It allows us to provide safe, effective care, with constant monitoring to give you peace of mind during your cat’s treatment. With our advanced ECG technology, we’re able to provide thorough heart monitoring, allowing for early detection, swift treatment, and compassionate care for your cat.
Otoscopy/Videoscopy
If your cat has ingested something they shouldn’t have or is suffering from an issue like a foxtail stuck in the ear or nose, we can use these tools to carefully retrieve foreign objects without invasive surgery. This minimizes discomfort and helps your cat recover more quickly.
During the procedure, we can display real-time images on a computer screen or television, allowing you to see what’s going on and discuss treatment options with us. This transparency helps you feel more informed and involved in your cat’s care.
Your cat’s safety and comfort are our highest priority. With endoscopy and videoscopy, we can quickly diagnose and treat conditions with minimal discomfort, helping your cat feel better as soon as possible. If you have any concerns about your cat’s health, we’re here to guide you through every step of the process.
Reproduction Services
We understand that pregnancy and the health of your cat's growing kittens are a source of great concern and joy. That’s why we offer pregnancy ultrasound evaluations to ensure both the mother and her kittens are healthy and developing as they should.
Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive way for us to assess the health of your cat’s pregnancy and monitor the stage of fetal development. It helps us make informed decisions about surgical options, such as when a Cesarean section might be necessary, ensuring that the birth process is as safe as possible for both mother and kittens.
Our team is here to provide compassionate care and support throughout the entire process, from early pregnancy checks to delivery. We understand the importance of your cat's well-being, and we are committed to providing the highest level of care for her and her kittens. If you have any questions or concerns about your cat's pregnancy or her care, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
